817 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. over the weekend

VICTORIA — The number of people contracting the COVID-19 virus in B.C. continues to surge.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there were 817 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend: A record 317 from Friday to Saturday, another 293 from Saturday to Sunday and 207 from Sunday to today (Oct.26).

There are 12 new cases of the virus in Northern Health for a total of 383 since the pandemic began.

Sadly three more deaths for a total of 259 in B.C. There are also 5,077 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., with 77 people hospitalized – 26 of whom are in intensive care or critical care untis.

As a result of the continued increase in cases, Henry says BC. is banning household gatherings except for your family and your “safe six.”

“Enforcement will be stepped up to ensure people are following this new order, with the immediate focus on the Fraser Health region, where the increase in new cases is most notable.”–Joint Statement by Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, and Stephen Brown, deputy minister of health

Henry says “safe six” means your six people you can safely be within your bubble of contacts.
