From 2003 to 2010 many residents of Prince George knew Ron St.Clair as the voice of the Prince George Cougars.

However, one of his other passions was Motorsport and last week St.Clair received one of the highest honours for his work in the sport, as he was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame.

St.Clair was one of fifteen inductees into the class of 2020.

“It was my 3rd year of eligibility after retiring from Motorsport announcing in 2016 when I announced my last race,” explained St.Clair to CKPG.

St.Clair was inducted as a Builder/Contributor and played a major part in helping the Cascar series get up and running in 1986.

“It was incredible. Who would have known this would have turned into what it is now with the Nascar Pinty Series.”

He had the opportunity to travel all over the country to announce races and meet some of the biggest names in Motorsports.

“I branched off as well into the Indy’s and I guess one highlight was doing pit row at the Vancouver Molson Indy and it was Michael Andretti’s last race in Canada so they were going to send it down to me on pit row to get an interview and who should walk by at the time was Mario Andretti, so I grabbed him.”

They also had the chance to take the Cascar tour down to Daytona before the Daytona 500.

Hockey though, was the original dream for St.Clair, and having the chance to be the voice of the Cougars was something he will never forget.

Thanks to his time with both the Cougars and Motorsport, St.Clair has racked up some impressive numbers in his announcing career.

“I chased the hockey dream and the Cougars were such a big part of it. I surpassed 1,000 games while doing the Cougars. So close to 2,000 games in hockey. I have done some rough math and it’s close to 2,000 stock car races as well,”

While he may be retired from announcing, St.Clair’s legacy in the sport of motorcross will live on in the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame.
