425 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 6 in Northern Health

VICTORIA–425 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 4 epi-linked cases, totalling, 16,560 cases since the start of the pandemic.

In the north, we saw an increase of six cases for a total of 438 since March. 11,020 tests were conducted across the province from yesterday to today, of which 425 cases were positive.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 5,223
  • Fraser Health Region: 9,707
  • Island Health: 281
  • Interior Health: 811
  • Northern Health: 438
  • Outside Canada: 90

There have been no new deaths, B.C.’s death toll remains at 273. 3,389 cases are active across all health authorities in B.C. There are 7,519 people who are being monitored for being exposed to a confirmed case of the virus.

97 people are in hospital and of those 24 are in ICU. There are two new health care facility outbreaks, while one has been declared over. In total there are 30 active outbreaks in the health care system, 648 residents have been affected by COVID-19 and 482 staff at health care facilities.

Dr. Henry warned British Columbians that if they know someone who has COVID-19 they are more at risk, and if they live or work with elders they mustn’t take part in risky activities that could lead to the potential spread of the virus.

“We did anticipate an increase as we moved indoors into the cooler weather but it is incredibly important that we manage this increase effectively,” said Dr. Henry.
