No working water

“I want water”: PG woman pleads after three years of unfixed pipes at local trailer park

PRINCE GEORGE — Angela Thomson has been without consistent running water since early October. It’s the latest of a string of incidents spanning over three years. She says it currently takes over four hours to fill a tub enough to bathe and has had to wake up at 3am to run the dishwasher, as no water will reach their trailer at the end of the South Shore Trailer Park lot if anyone else is using it. A problem exacerbated by her husband’s terminal cancer and her 16-year-old son.

“All of last winter we had no water pressure and the landlord said no repairs can be done because it’s winter so we had to live without,” explained Thomson. “Last winter I was still able to bathe, it would take five hours to fill the tub, but I could actually fill it and then add boiling water and have a bath.

“I don’t even have that luxury now.”

Thomson says her neighbours have the same issues but were not available for an interview. Last month, new plumbing lines were installed but they have yet to be hooked up, despite Michal Bidrman, the park’s owner, being aware the 80-year-old pipes need to be replaced.

“I am constantly sending texts and messages and emails to both the property owner and the maintenance guy who lives on-site asking for updates,” Thomson said. “The last response I received was to go ask the construction workers working at the site only there aren’t any. No one is here.”

According to BC’s Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Act, under “repairs”, the landlord must repair damages caused by reasonable wear and tear to the site while the tenant is required to contact them in the event a serious repair is needed.

When asked if she considered moving from the park, Thomson said they cannot because they own the home and they do not have the funds available to move.

Following the publication of this story, Bidrman responded to our call saying the new pipes have all been tested and the delay was because they were waiting on parts before hooking up the line. He says that work should be done in the next couple of days.
