100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — RCMP in 100 Mile House say a debris pile at the site of the former 100 Mile Junior Secondary School was set ablaze last Friday (Nov. 6).

Crews are in process of tearing down the former school and clearing it off the Cedar Avenue property.

According to a news release, Mounties were called to the site at about 9:30 p.m. Friday to help 100 Mile Fire Rescue.

Investigators found two possible suspects near the fire and seized evidence found near the debris pile as well.

No one was injured in the blaze.

“Even though the buildings are being torn down, there was potentially significant risk to the community from extremely poor air quality to the potential for the fire to spread to other parts of the town,” Staff Sgt. Svend Nielsen was quoted in the release.

Anyone with further information on the fire is asked to call 100 Mile House RCMP at (250) 395-2456 or Crime Stoppers 1 (800) 222-8477.
