MURAL DEFACED

Neighbours say defaced BX mural is ‘part of a much bigger problem’

PRINCE GEORGE – According to neighbours in the area, the vandalized mural is a reflection of their neighbourhood.

“It was never like this before this summer,” says resident Guy Lefevre. “It’s like living under siege.”

For Lefevre, his house is now what he calls a ‘fortress’ and he is on constant alert, and now with the vandalizing of the mural, he says now is the time to act.

The vandalizing is just the latest bad news for a neighbourhood that says they’re ‘sick of it.’

The area has been the site of an armed robbery, a mass slashing of tires, and an increase of loose needles left lying around threatening the safety of pets.

Councillor Brian Skakun says if residents come across needles, they can call 3-1-1 to have assistance from the city to clean them up.

“I have spoken with Mayor Hall and some others at City Hall about these types of things, and if there’s not a neighbourhood watch in this area, get one going,” says Councillor Brian Skakun.

Lefevre accuses the city of not acting accordingly, he says he refuses to start a neighbourhood watch because he doesn’t think it’s a good solution.

Instead, Lefevre wants to see more social services offered in the city, and help for those who need it, instead of the troubling reality that has come to be on Douglas street.

“It’s just a matter of who moves into a neighbourhood or hangs around and sometimes it’s some not very good folks,” says Skakun.

Lefevre says he’s not giving up and will continue to advocate until he gets the neighbourhood back that he used to know and love.

CKPG News previously covered the story of how the BX Pub mural was defaced and today clarified that the mural is damaged beyond repair.

A replacement is planned.
