PRINCE GEORGE — The top of the Coast Prince George Hotel will once again be lit up this holiday season as the United Way of Northern BC has announced the Tree of Lights will return for what the organization calls “a collective effort to bring the light of hope and joy in the face of the global crisis”. The 60-foot tree will arrive Thursday at approximately 11am.

“With this additional crisis of overdose in BC running parallel to the pandemic, we feel it an important yet often polarizing issue to stand up for across Northern BC,” said Trista Spencer, UWNBC Executive Director, in a statement.

She continued, “This opportunity to bring back the United Way Tree of Lights is two fold for us in that we get to bring attention to some critical issues, but we also have a wonderful way to connect the community in a time we feel so isolated from each other.”

Meanwhile, the North Peace Cultural Centre is raising a partner tree in Fort St. John to coincide with the opening of this year’s Artisan Christmas Market. It will be raised in the concourse of the North Peace Cultural Centre and bring to light the same issues UWNBC is in Prince George.

Funds are also being raised with a goal of $10,000 to support persons dealing with mental health and addictions issues. Spencer said,” The opportunity to connect to our communities is so key for us to continue the work we do each and every day.”
