Doherty takes motion to QP

PRINCE GEORGE – The MP for Cariboo-Prince George is hoping to use Question Period to promote his latest motion, which he introduced last week.

Todd Doherty introduced a motion to have a universal, three-digit suicide prevention phone number to replace the current ten-digit numbers which are not universal across the country.

“When somebody is at that point, when they’re asking for help, when minutes matter, help should just be three digits away,” says Doherty, who plans to raise his motion in the House during today’s QP.

Doherty says the pandemic has forced people to isolate, has cost many people their livelihood, and has created an overwhelming sense of anxiety for many.

“The time for action was yesterday,” he says, adding this is not a partisan issue and it would be a simple thing to do.

In June of 2018, Doherty’s Bill around Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bill C-211, received Royal Assent. He says this endeavour builds on that success.
