OTTAWA — “When minutes count, help should only be three digits away.”
A strong-willed Todd Doherty made his claim for a single national suicide prevention hotline in the House of Commons this week. The Cariboo-Prince George MP was successful in his efforts as the motion for 988 to be that line was unanimously passed. In pleading his case, Doherty said, “I hope that as leaders and parliamentarians, our final act in our most challenging year is one of action.”
The motion called for “immediate” work to begin with provinces to establish the universal suicide prevention line.
