Henry says there are 6,349 number of active cases of the virus, up six from yesterday. There are 372 people in hospital – 74 of whom are in critical or intensive care.In Northern Health, 38 people are in hospital.

Sadly eight more people have died in B.C. bringing B.C.’s death toll to 970. Henry says all of those deceased were seniors or residents of long-term care homes.

Henry says today’s numbers show there’s an upward trend in cases of COVID-19 and says as a result, the provincial health orders banning social gatherings put in place last month, will remain in place.

She says it’s clear some people did not follow those guidelines during the holiday break making the extension of the health order necessary.
