Building Permits “surprising” for 2020

PRINCE GEORGE – The City has crunched the building permit numbers for 2020 and they’re are a surprise.

“Coming in to 2020, I thought they would be really good. Then everything that came with COVID, I started second-guessing what we’d see in terms of building permits. and, yeah, a little surprised,” says Melissa Barcellos, Manager of Economic Development.

The total number of permits issued in 2020 topped $219 million, a mere two percent less than were issued in 2019, which was a record-breaking year with the issuance of $223 million worth of permits.

“Council is extremely pleased and impressed to see these important economic indicators for Prince George are continuing at near-record levels even through the pandemic, which has had such a negative impact for the economy,” says Mayor Lyn Hall.

The highest value permits of the year include:

*$35 Million – downtown pool at 7th Avenue and Dominion Street

*$14 Million – four-story multi-family residential building with parkade, 4413 Glen Shee Road

*$9,030,765 – new commercial building for Primex Properties, 547 George Street

*$5,925,000 – four-story, 75 multi-family unit residential apartment building, 2658 Replace Drive

*$5,608,000 – three-story Multi-Family Transition House, E-Fry Society, 14th Avenue
