PG jobless numbers buck the trend

PRINCE GEORGE – According to Statistics Canada, the economy lost 63,000 jobs in December in the first monthly decline since April, amid tightened public health restrictions to slow a resurgence in the pandemic.

The national unemployment rate was 8.6 per cent for the month, up from 8.5 per cent in November.

BC also saw a slight uptick in jobless numbers to 7.2 percent in December from 7.1 in November.

However, the unemployment rate in Prince George george dropped to 7.6 percent last month from 8.1 in November.
