YXS reports drop of 64% in passenger numbers in 2020 due to COVID-19

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) has released its final passenger numbers for 2020, and due to COVID-19, they’re not pretty.

Just over 176 thousand passengers passed through the turnstiles, a drop of over 64 per cent. The months of April and May were hardest hit, followed by June which all experienced drops of over 90 per cent compared to the same months in 2019.

The federal wage subsidy program allowed the airport to keep all of its staff though President and CEO Gordon Duke says more needs to be done to help the aviation industry.
