PRINCE GEORGE – A landmark church downtown is undergoing some needed work that will prevent permanent damage to the building.

Some members of the distinctive A-frame roof of St. Michael and All Angels Church are launching the largest capital campaign in its 55-year history in Prince George.

Their goal is to raise $400,000 to help preserve the iconic building and the history it holds for the community.

The ceiling of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church is one of the many unique features that parishioners are hoping to preserve with its “Raise the Roof” campaign.

The cedar shakes on the roof are deteriorating and need replacing to help protect the treasures inside.

“The church is part of the downtown community and has hosted several events and provides space for non-profit organizations.”

In 1976 the church located at the corner of 5th and Victoria was the first place in Canada to ordain a female priest.

Over the 55 years, the church has done several minor repairs to preserve its shell. According to funding organizers upgrades are needed as some of the water damage has affected the outside walls.

The plan is to start the repairs this spring. More information about the project and how you can donate can be found on the St Michael church website.
