One person missing following avalanche north of Valemount

VALEMOUNT — One person is missing following an avalanche Tuesday just north of Valemount.

North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says the missing person is a 35-year-old man from Fernie.

She says three people backcountry skiing were caught in the avalanche, noting two of the skiers were able to free themselves.

Saunderson says Robson Valley Search and Rescue had to suspend the search due to darkness Tuesday, and were to continue the search today.
