PRINCE GEORGE – It was felt across BC, call centres flooded with calls from over 1.5 million British Columbians trying to register to get their COVID-19 vaccines in the first few hours the phone lines were open.

Northern Health confirmed to CKPG News their call centre was not unlike the rest of BC, only saying they were inundated with calls, asking people to be patient, and not call unless they are eligible.

BC Health Officials pleading on Monday to only call when you become eligible, currently only those over 90, and those Indigenous and over 65 are eligible to register.

The list of those who are eligible to call expands again on Wednesday, with all of those over 80 years old will become eligible to register for an appointment.

BC Health Minister Adrian Dix took part of the blame in the COVID-19 media availability on Monday afternoon, pledging to do better.

“The demands on our system are not going to get less, they’re going to grow, and so it’s very important that people follow our advice and only call in to book when they can book and appointment.” says Dix.

Northern Health revealed immunization plans on Sunday, CEO and President Cathy Ulrich says plans started being made for this phase of immunization delivery back in January,

The largest health authority in BC is Northern Health, which will operate over 30 vaccination clinics across Northern BC.

The health authority also added they will have mobile clinics for more remote and rural communities that have not been immunized already.
