Vanderhoof Airshow taking off

VANDERHOOF – It’s a spectacle that we have come to expect in either Vanderhoof or Quesnel each year. But there have been some challenges. In 2017, the host city of Quesnel had to cancel because of the wildfires and last year, Vanderhoof hosted what came to be called the air hug, essentially fly-by of several Northern BC communities. But this year, the air show in Vanderhoof is back on August 14.

“The main act will be the Canadian Armed Forces F-18, the special demonstration team. The thing looks incredible. It’ll be blasting the sky around here for over half an hour,” explains Dr. Paul Collard with the Vanderhoof International Airshow Society.

There will also be a glider show put on by Manfred Radius. He hasn’t attended the airshow in Vanderhoof since the 1980’s.

Only the format of the airshow is undetermined, according to Dr. Collard.

“It may be a drive-in situation. We can accommodate 500 cars at the airport. It may be a park and come in to sit on the grass and socially distance with your mask on. We’re not sure yet. We’re working with Northern Health as plans move forward.”

But he says, regardless of how to take in the airshow, he says it’s certain it is moving ahead as planned.
