PRINCE GEORGE – While the rest of Prince George has transitioned into the warmer temperatures of Spring, the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is still sporting some snow. However, the record-breaking season has come to an end.

“Memberships finished off extremely strong,” said General Manager Angela LeFebvre. “We were at just over 2,800, which is a lot more than we forecasted seeing. We had forecasted seeing a drop in memberships so this is exciting to see for us.”

And while revenues for the season were up with the increase in memberships, the Club aims to put those dollars back into its facilities and trails.

“As a not-for-profit, we always roll those things back into the facilities,” explained LeFebvre. “We’re looking at how can we grow our programs, how can we deliver more services to our club members and to the community of Prince George.”

And those involved at the club may have participated in the inaugural Grand Tour of Caledonia, with weekly courses being set up through the club’s trails.

“We had 415 registered participants,” said Kevin Pettersen, Director of Competition at the club. “I think it just lifted everyone’s spirit because we got such positive feedback from it and lots of people are wanting to see it happen next year, which given the popular demand we’re looking forward to doing that.”

As the club transitions into its summer programming, the annual maintenance will get underway as well.

“The summertime, we take the opportunity to work on our trails, do maintenance around our buildings and infrastructure,” said LeFebvre. “Also, we’re looking at single-track maintenance. We have our mountain bike program starting up, and other programs we’re excited about and we’re building out those pieces over the summer. Even though it may look like our season is over, we’re a year-round facility and we’re working towards all of those pieces.”

The club is hoping to bring back the kids’ nature program, however, the club is holding off on releasing concrete details due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, simply wanting to ensure the club is making the proper decisions for the community.
