974 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, 44 in Northern Health

VICTORIA — British Columbia’s provincial government announced 974 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend.

From Friday to Saturday there were 356 new cases, from Saturday to Sunday 325 cases and from Sunday to today, 293 new cases.

Here’s the regional breakdown:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 157
  • Fraser Health: 630
  • Island Health: 25
  • Interior Health: 117
  • Northern Health: 44

In a joint statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix say there was also one new case of a person who resides outside Canada.

Along with the lower case count, the number of active cases has dropped to 3,953 with 292 people in hospital, 96 of whom are in intensive or critical care.

Henry and Dix say there were also 12 more deaths bringing B.C.’s death toll to 1,679.

A total of 2,888,488 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have now been administered in B.C., 144,144 of which are second doses.

The provincial government will go public with its restart plan tomorrow afternoon.
