PRINCE GEORGE – BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) crews responded to 10 incidents over the May Long weekend in the Prince George Fire Centre which led to crews battling four wildfires across Northern BC.

All four wildfires in Northern BC were believed to be human-caused.

There is one wildfire from the weekend north of Mackenzie that remains active which is under control by the Mackenzie Unit Crew.

The BCWS say they responded to the wildfire on Monday afternoon which was burning at a rank three grass fire considered to be moderate in intensity on the shores of Morfee Lake near the Morfee Lake FSR.

Crews will continue patrolling the fire searching for hotspots on Tuesday and do not expect the fire to increase in size due to the current conditions and resources.

As of noon on Monday, the province as a whole had 23 active wildfires, led by the Coastal Fire Centre at nine, and the Kamloops Fire Centre which has eight.
