PRINCE GEORGE – As temperatures rise, it is expected that bears will wander through neighborhoods looking for an easy food source. College Heights resident, Lynne Brown, says she is concerned with the garbage cans that are currently in place could be an easy target.
Brown has been in contact with the City and says they have no current plans to make any changes. The City of Prince George could not provide a comment to CKPG News in time.
Bears can become accustomed to eating garbage in urban areas, which can result in a delayed hibernation time. The Prince George City website states that on average, thirty-five bears are destroyed each year in Prince George when they become used to unnatural food sources.
