PRINCE GEORGE–As part of BC’s restart plan, gyms across the province can now once again offer indoor low intensity fitness classes with limited capacity.

Preparations are underway at the Live and Lift Ladies Fitness gym, as the owners get ready to bring members back inside their studio.

“We’re super excited to be able to offer our indoor low intensity classes coming up this week.” said Brent Matijevic, co-owner of Live & Lift Ladies Fitness.

The owners of the gym say offering indoor classes has been something their members have been desperately waiting for.

“It’s definitely different working out on your own, trying to do your own thing. I know for myself, I definitely work out harder when I have others with me and it’s definitely more enjoyable. So I know there’s definitely a lot of ladies that are excited to get back into it.” said Kelsey Kean, co-owner of Live & Lift Ladies Fitness.

The province is allowing low intensity group classes such as Yoga and Pilates. Next week, the gym says they’re going to begin offering those classes along with a NIA workout which is non-impact aerobics involving a low intensity tai-chi class.

The gym is also going to continue their outdoor classes which allows for high intensity group sessions.

The owners say this is a stepping stone to getting back to offering high intensity indoor classes again, which they hope can happen in the next stage of the province’s restart plan.

“We feel that our members are ready to come back into the indoor classes. We have a great community in our classes and we really look forward to getting back to pre-pandemic levels.” said Matijevic.

Over at the YMCA of Prince George, center manager Shannon Johnson says that they’ve already begun their indoor sessions.

“We are gonna be offering things like Zumba, POUND, and some bootcamp classes outdoors.” said Johnson.

Johnson says that throughout the pandemic, the Y has offered a virtual workout class for its members and she says the gym is going to continue incorporating that to allow as many people as possible to take part.

“People who are looking to enhance their program even once we do return to regular services, will have the opportunity to access a stretch class or high intensity class that they can do at home as well as access the facility for the program.” said Johnson.

Both gyms say that while they’re only allowed a limited number of people inside, they’re happy that they’re able to bring its members back together into an indoor setting.
