Prince George Canoe and Kayak Club staying afloat throughout pandemic waves

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Canoe and Kayak Club was one of 11 local sports organizations to receive the Local Sport Relief Fund.

For the Club that money came at a very important time when they were forced to move locations because of COVID-19 guidelines.

The Club had to therefore transport all of their boats back and forth to this new location and needed a new boat trailer, which they were able to acquire thanks to the Fund.

According to Angus Ball, Head Coach of the Club he said, “it would be an improbable task to move the boats to run the programs without the viaSport grant, so we are very grateful because without it, that probably would have meant the end of our Club.”

For the Club, they are excited for next year’s BC Summer Games, which are being held in Prince George. The Club, is set to host and compete in water sports and knows how important it is for them to still be running.

“With the grant it made it possible to keep these kids nice and trained up, give them that experience in kayaking and canoeing and now they’ll get to go to the games.”
