PRINCE GEORGE – Work has begun on Fifth Avenue as part of this year’s roadworks plan. Council approved $5.8 million to cover 38 projects around the city and $700,000 to do five sidewalk projects.

Preparatory and milling operations are starting this week on eight other projects:

*5th Avenue from Ospika Boulevard to Voyageur Avenue

*5th Avenue from Douglas Street to Johnson Street

*Douglas Street from 5th Avenue to 2nd Avenue

*Ewert Street from 5th Avenue to 2nd Avenue

*Freeman Street from 5th Avenue to 2nd Avenue

*Renwick Crescent from Melville Avenue to Winnipeg Street

*Cameron Street Roundabout

*River Road from Cameron Street Overpass to Cameron Street Bridge

Normally local road works begin when the asphalt plants open in May, but this year’s start is delayed.

“It’s a little bit late,” says Mick Jones, Supervisor of Roads. “Typically the contractor does start here but they have some other commitments they were able to get started on. It just gave us a little more time to get some of the preliminary work done.”

He assures the work set out in the plan will get done. The year’s largest project will be a 4.3 lane kilometre stretch of Northwood Pulpmill Road.
