NORTHERN BC – “I feel really great about the say ahead.”

That was how Opposition Leader Shirley Bond opened her weekly media availability, saying British Columbians are feeling a sense of optimism but suggests there still needs to be some discipline as the province rolls out its Restart Plan.

That plan includes lifting travel bans, beginning with travel within BC as of June 15th. The next threshold is July 1st when the plan lifts restrictions on travel across the country. Music to the ears of the CEO of Tourism Prince George.

“We’re actually opening the physical visitor centre on Monday,” says Tracey McBride, CEO of Tourism Prince George. “We’re excited to have a full summer staff complement and we’re going to take out our mobile.”

The centre will be operating at reduced hours to start. But Bond says the industry still needs help.

“We need to make sure that those struggling tourism businesses get the help they need. We’re going to continue to press to get money out the door to support that businsess.”
