100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — One man has been arrested after an alleged gunpoint kidnapping in 100 Mile House Wednesday (June 9).

Just before 6:00 a.m., RCMP were alerted to a kidnapping with a firearm from a home on Merkley Crescent in the Horse Lake area. The report noted that a 28-year-old man had pointed a gun at a 23-year-old woman and taken her from the home by force. The suspect then allegedly drove the woman southbound on Highway 97 toward Cache Creek.

The suspect allegedly made threats against another woman and child living in 100 Mile House as well.

Ashcroft RCMP located the initial victim safe, while the targets of the threats were located and taken to the 100 Mile RCMP detachment for their safety.

RCMP then went to the Merkley Crescent home, searching for the armed suspect.

While there, officers noticed a dog acting strangely near a tree on the property. Sure enough, officers located the suspect about 50 feet up a 100-foot Fir tree. After descending from his perch, the man, who was unarmed, was arrested without further incident. Investigators are still looking for the gun.

100 Mile House RCMP believe the incident is isolated “involving a small group of individuals” and there is no risk to the general public. Anyone with further information is asked to call the 100 Mile detachment at (250) 395-2456 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
