PRINCE GEORGE – It’s one big announcement after another for the Prince George Kodiaks Football Club.

The Kodiaks and the Hart Community Centre Society have announced a new strategic partnership that will enhance what both organizations are able to do within the community.

As part of the agreement, the events such as weddings, parties, dances, and craft fairs will continue to be a cornerstone of the Hart Community Centre. The Kodiaks will utilize space within the Centre for offices, storage and to offer training and sport programs for youth and adults. The Centre will also be made available for other user groups that will be offering community-based services such as Yoga, Zumba, Fitness Classes, Dance Classes and more.

According to the Kodiaks, the partnership will allow for the full utilization of the space, not only as an Event and Wedding Venue but as a Community Centre bringing more services to the Hart Community.

“Ultimately, at the end of the day, we were able to form a very strategic partnership that benefits both organizations,” said Kodiaks President Craig Briere.

In addition to the partnership, The Kodiaks Football Club has leased land from the City of Prince George adjacent to the Hart Community Centre on Heather Road for the development of a full-sized Canadian Football League field with lighting and two smaller fields.

Proposed land development plans for the Prince George Kodiaks practice facility.

“It’s fundamental in the growth of football. If we’re going to grow the sport and add new elements to the sport, we need our own space. We need our own field, we need our own locker room facility, we need our own training space. We need a space just like the Hart Community Centre in order to be able to do fundraisers, team events, to be able to do things like film study,” explained Briere.

The Kodiaks hope these fields allow for additional programming and the ability to grow field sports in the Hart Area.

Masich Place will remain as the primary venue for football in the North but this investment will allow for the continued growth of football in Northern BC.
