PRINCE GEORGE – With the province getting set to enter Step Three of its recovery, which will lift even more restrictions, many businesses are starting to lay out return-to-work plans.

In a recent student by the Business Development Bank of Canada, 74% of employers will offer their employees a chance to work from home, 54% are reporting more flexible hours but only 34% saw reduced operating costs with employees at home.

“It’s not a surprise. Like anything, we evolve out of necessity,” says Todd Corrigall, CEO of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce. “So what we saw was a lot of businesses who had the capacity to change their model put in place a number of mechanisms to allow them to change that model.”

The Survey also found that 55% of employees prefer to continue to work from home. For KPMG, return to work involves a number of factors.

“We want to provide our employees with flexibility,” explains Corey Naphtali, Partner with KMPG in Prince George. “But flexibility not at the expense of effective production. We want people to work where they’re most effective.”

He says KPMG will look at some form of hybrid.

“So having some form of hybrid work environment is really the direction that we’ll probably end up in and I think we need to be attuned to what people want in Prince George because sometimes that’s different from other communities as well.”

But then, the question remains: What with the workplace landscape look like in another 18 months.
