UNBC Timberwolves set to host sports camps for local youth once again

PRINCE GEORGE – For the first time since the pandemic began, the UNBC Timberwolves will be hosting summer camps for young local athletes at the Northern Sport Centre.

Soccer, basketball and multi-sport camps will be run July 12th-16th and August 9th-13th.

For Tyrell Laing, a men’s basketball player for the Twolves, he will be helping run some of these camps.

Being born and raised here in Prince George, as well as heading into his fifth and final year with UNBC, he knows just how important it is to give back to these kids.

“I was one of those kids at one point in time,” says Laing. “I remember coming to Timberwolves camps and getting inspired and then the rest is history. I think that it’s really important, especially right now, especially the times we’re in. We give kids the chance to return to some level of normalcy, so we’re looking to have a lot of fun with that.”

He also knows the great responsibility that comes with teaching these kids, as he knows how much they look up to him and the team.

“You can’t really put it into words honestly, you have the opportunity as a player, when the kids actually come and watch you play and then they see you at their camps. You can’t really replace that, so that’s why I’m trying to take advantage and just show my face at as many camps as I can and share the knowledge, get people excited about the game, [because] that’s what I’m passionate about.”
