FORT ST JAMES — The BC Wildfire Service continues to action the Camsell Lake fire west of Fort St. James.

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN), Yekooche First Nation and BC Parks issued an evacuation order due to the fire last night (see map below).

The suspected lightning caused fire is currently 188 hectares in size and is classified as out-of-control.

“There are currently 28 firefighters, three helicopters, and five pieces of heavy equipment working to establish fire guards on the north and south flanks,” says Prince George Fire Centre Information Officer Alex Lane.

There are currently 61 active fires burning in the Prince George FIre Centre and were four new fire starts over the past 24 hours.

Looking ahead, Lane says there is the potential for rain in the northeast half of the fire centre on Friday.

“If we do see precipitation on Friday, it could lower the temperature, increase relative humidity, which would create conditions that will help the fire suppression efforts of our crews on the ground.”
