Evacuation order issued for Cutoff Creek fire

PRINCE GEORGE — The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN), the Saik’uz First Nation and BC Parks have issued an evacuation order for the Cutoff Creek fire, located 70-80 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof.

The order runs south of the intersection of Kenny Dam Road and Brophy Road, southwest to Knewstub Lake, and southeast to the 600 FSR, including Saik’uz IR Tatuk Lake 7, Tatuk, and Finger FSR. The order does not include Kenney Dam Road where it runs adjacent to the Nechako River, as shown on the attached map.

Evacuees can register at the Reception Centre in Vanderhoof Municipal Arena at 340 Columbia St. East or contact the Emergency Support Services Director at 1-778-916-1995.

Emergency Support Services can provide assistance for food, accommodation, hotel or staying with friends and family, clothing, emotional support and family reunification.

An Expanded Evacuation Alert has been issued by the RDBN (replacing the Evacuation Alert Change July 9, 2021 at 1800 hours), for the following areas: West of the Nechako River including the Kenney Dam Road West to the Corkscrew RSF and Sinkut Road, excluding the evacuation order area, as shown on the attached map.

The Prince George Fire Centre says the lightning-caused Cutoff Creek fire had grown to 12,000 hectares by this morning and more growth is expected due to winds in the area.

Forty-seven firefighters, 17 structural protection unit personnel, three helicopters and 15 pieces of heavy equipment had been deployed to fight the fire as of this morning.

No structures have been lost to the fire to date.
