PRINCE GEORGE — The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) and the Saik’uz First Nation in conjunction with BC Parks have downgraded the evacuation order for the Cutoff Creek fire to an evacuation alert.

The order had been in place since July 14. The 21,500 hectare lightning-caused fire is located about 60 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof and was first discovered on July 2.

Fire Information Officer Sharon Nickel with the Prince George Fire Centre says precipitation and cooler temperatures allowed for the downgrade to an alert.

The RDBN has also announced an evacuation order change and an evacuation alert expansion for the Grizzly Lake wildfire.
