PRINCE GEORGE — A familiar face has tossed his hat into the federal political race.

Prince George City Councillor Garth Frizzell will be running under the Liberal banner in the riding for Cariboo-Prince George.

“As the election started heating up, the issues that came up were all about Cariboo-Prince George. It’s not just the obvious ones. Environment and climate change, reconciliation. We’ve got to deal with pandemic recovery. As we go into the pandemic recovery, it’s important to everybody that Cariboo-Prince George is at the table.”

Frizzell came to Prince George in 1996 for his Masters’ degree at UNBC in International Studies. He met his wife Sue, and they have three children.

Frizzell was first elected to Prince George City Council in 2008. He most recently was the President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. And he says, while he is well-known in Prince George, the real work will be in the region.

He is running against Conservative incumbent Todd Doherty and Audrey McKinnon of the NDP. No other candidates have been announced.

The election is scheduled for Sept.20.
