671 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 89 up north

VICTORIA — A slight drop in the number of COVID-19 cases in British Columbia today.

The province announcing 671, which is down from 801 on Thursday. Eighty-nine new cases in the Northern Health region and 77.1% of eligible people 12 and older are now fully vaccinated province-wide. 84.8% of eligible people 12 and older have received their first dose.

The new/active cases include:

* 230 new cases in Fraser Health
* Total active cases: 1,689

* 78 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health
* Total active cases: 1,077

* 230 new cases in Interior Health
* Total active cases: 1,965

* 89 new cases in Northern Health
* Total active cases: 595

* 44 new cases in Island Health
* Total active cases: 539

Three more people have died over the past 24 hours (Interior Health) for an overall total of 1,827.

There are 5,872 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and 160,268 people who tested positive have recovered. The total number of people diagnosed with the virus since the pandemic began is 168,325. Of the active cases, 215 individuals are in hospital and 118 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.
