PRINCE GEORGE– Every day, nine new Canadians are diagnosed with myeloma. The disease is the second most common form of blood cancer.

This Saturday, Prince George residents are gathering virtually for the Multiple Myeloma March. A nationwide event to raise awareness and critical research funds for the little-known and incurable cancer. David Duck who was diagnosed with Myeloma in 2015, participates in the yearly event to raise funds and says since he was diagnosed treatments have come a long way.

“Because of the myeloma, I lost some strength and stamina, and I am no longer able to play soccer. Still, thanks to my current treatments, I get to play golf and fish again. I was even able to attend a fishing trip with my three sons in August – something I would not have imagined a year ago – David Duck

Briana Greer, a UNBC student, created her team to march with called #strongforjohn in memory of her dad who passed away in August from an aggressive form of Multiple Myeloma. Greer is doing the march with her family and friends, in memory of her father, and has already raised over $5000.

Marcie Baron the communication & marketing manager at Myeloma Canada says that even though it’s online for a 2nd year she still expects a big turnout in donations for research and treatments.

If you can’t make the event, but would still like to donate, you can head over to www.myeloma.ca and donate there as well as plan other events to raise money.

UPDATE: The Prince George Multiple Myeloma March has raised $10,595 to date
