Bringing Wild Back to the West: Rodeo to return to Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s time to saddle up, Prince George!

Tuesday night, at the original rodeo grounds outside the CN Centre, the Prince George Western Heritage Society announced they will be bringing rodeo back to the city.

Rodeo Prince George will be an outdoor event that will take place at the original rodeo grounds on Father’s Day weekend of next year, June 17-19, 2022.

With the hope of drawing nearly 450 competitors to the event from across Western Canada and the Northwestern United States, Kevin Cunin (President, PG Western Heritage Society) and Chris Scott (Vice President, PG Western Heritage Society) are hoping to have over 4,000 spectators take in the weekend’s festivities.

“We want to bring big business to local vendors, the downtown core and the hospitality sector,” Scott said during the announcement. “We want this rodeo to not only be a major entertainment event for the people of PG and the surrounding area but also bring money into the pockets of our local businesses and bring an awareness to the beauty that is the sport of rodeo.”

Other events that weekend will include a slot barrel racing jackpot on Friday night, which organizers are hoping will bring an abundance of barrel racers to compete. A “magic rodeo” will also take place, where children with special needs will spend a morning with rodeo athletes and learn about the various events.

There will also be an on-site cabaret barn dance with live music on Saturday night.

If you are interested in attending the Rodeo or learning about sponsorship opportunities, the Prince George Western Heritage Society has re-branded their social media accounts to Rodeo PG on Facebook and Rodeo Prince George on Instagram.
