VANCOUVER — With just minutes remaining in Saturday’s game, the UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team pulled off a historic comeback to tie the UBC Thunderbirds 3-3.

At the half, the score was 3-0 for the reigning Canada West champions, but in the 84th minute, UNBC’s Owen Stewart got the Timberwolves on the scorebord. Stewart scored again at the 87 minute mark. Finally, in the 91st minute Connor Lewis snuck in the first goal of his Canada West career.

Timberwolves will look to ride the momentum into next week, when they play host to the UBC Okanagan Heat at Masich Place in Prince George.

Meantime, the UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team is coming home without a win after a hard fought weekend against the U SPORTS National Champion UBC Thunderbirds.

The Timberwolves fell 3-0 to the Thunderbirds Saturday, after some high stakes action in the 90th minute.

In the 90 minute mark, UNBC was awarded a free kick from 30 yards out after a foul was called on UBC’s Monika Johnson. Timberwolves’ third-year Kiana Swift took the free kick, which bounced off the crossbar and out of play. Just two minutes later, Swift got another chance to get UNBC on the score sheet, but the crossbar got in the way once again.

The Timberwolves will make the trip back to Prince George and get set to host the UBC Okanagan Heat next weekend.
