PRINCE GEORGE – Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, but the Senior’s Centre in Prince George is getting a head start on celebrations.

The “Mother’s Day Tea” took place at the Hart Pioneer Centre and it invited mothers, sisters, grandmothers and community members.

“Mother’s Day is a day of loving and caring,” says Lorraine Prouse, the president of the senior group. “Every child is fortunate to have a mother. Some of us are not so fortunate. Our mothers have passed away. But there’s nothing like a mother.”

Prouse says the annual event had to pause during the Pandemic, but the overwhelming support from volunteers and the tremendous interest from mothers in town made this special event possible, reflecting the community’s deep-rooted enthusiasm for Mother’s Day.

“We have people asking for a Mother’s Day tea for tickets in September. And Mother’s Day doesn’t come until the spring, right? So we have people say, put my name down. because they enjoy this.”

Beverley Baird is a proud member of the Hart Pioneer Centre, as well as a proud mother.

“The best day of the year,” says Baird. “Everybody calls me mom. Great grandma and great grandma. The best jobs I’ve ever had.”
