Cougars look for first win while Spruce Kings look for perfect opening weekend

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars are still looking for their first win on the young Western Hockey League (WHL) season.

One week after dropping their home opener to the Kamloops Blazers, the Cougars scored first but ultimately fell on the road to the Vancouver Giants 6-4.

The Cougars are 0-2 to start the 2021-22 WHL season but look to get home opener revenge against the Blazers Saturday (Oct. 9) at 7 p.m. in Kamloops.

Elsewhere in Prince George, the Spruce Kings are looking to start the 2021-22 British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) season with a perfect weekend.

Eleven skaters got on the scoresheet for the Spruce Kings in an 8-1 blowout of the Merritt Centennials. The Spruce Kings travel to West Kelowna to take on the Warriors at 7 p.m. Saturday before returning to Prince George ahead of their home opener on Oct. 15.
