BC Hydro finds heating practices adding to climate change.
PRINCE GEORGE – This week BC Hydro released a report that many British Columbians are unaware of how home heating can contribute to climate change. Hydro is encouraging residents to think about replacing their gas furnaces with a more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient option.
As temperatures drop overnight across the province, some residents’ gas furnaces will be running longer than they may have since last spring. A BC Hydro survey found that gas furnaces significantly contribute to climate change every time these gas furnaces click on.
98 percent of BC’s electricity is generated from clean, renewable resources powered mainly by water. To decrease emissions, Hydro suggests installing an electric heat pump in place of a gas furnace.
