PRINCE GEORGE – Chris Vigue has been a huge fan of Swollen Members and Madchild for over 20 years. Chris Vigue maintained that friendship with the group as well as their vocalist Madchild.

“I had the pleasure of picking them up one day at the airport, and holding it down for them, taking them for dinner, taking them to their hotel, actually standing on stage with them,” explained Chris Vigue, a local music producer. “My favorite group of all time, it was like a miracle. And then as the years went on and progressed, Madchild and I became good friends.”

Ever since then he has maintained that friendship and, one day, he shared his story of drug abuse and alcoholism with Madchild. He spoke of almost losing everything and then finally being faced with a choice.

Lose it all, or get help.

It began when Chris was a kid, he was a loner as a youth, which caused him to be severely bullied.

“And then I got introduced to drugs and it took over a big portion of my life.”

Fast forward 6 years and Chris got clean and turned his life around. Chris and Madchild share many things in common including fighting off their demons.

“And then I was able to share my life story with him, and after he heard the life story (it) really touched his heart, cause he went through a lot of the similar trials and tribulations that I did.”

“(There is) a special song that I wrote about a very loyal fan for many years, that eventually became my homie. I didn’t know for a long time, but he had a very, very, very interesting life story to tell,” said Madchild, Canadian rapper, “and when he finally told me that life story, I wrote a song about it.”

Chris explained that Madchild shared similar life experiences, losing many things, including money to his drug addiction from 2006 to 2011.

This isn’t about fame or fortune for Chris, he just wants to help people out.

“The end goal is to raise money for the Spirit of the North- Nechako Youth detox, which is a program I actually ended up in as a young adult, not even a youth.”

Currently, the video has been viewed 157, 454 times with over 3-thousand likes on Youtube.

“I want it to keep going, I want to help people out. Drug addictions, mental health issues aren’t just downtown, they’re not just in tent city, they’re not just with the homeless. They’re a lot closer to home than you know.”

According to Chris, this has all become a dream come true and he will continue to help and support anyone who is looking to get clean and sober. He also wants to become a safe space for youth who may be experiencing bullying.
