Major penalty costs Spruce Kings in 3-1 loss to Express
PRINCE GEORGE — A five-minute major penalty for a blow to the head proved costly for the Prince George Spruce Kings Saturday (Nov. 13).
Leading the Coquitlam Express 1-0 in the second period, thanks to Rowan Miller’s 10th goal of the season, Austin Fraser was ejected with less than five minutes to go in the middle frame. The Express proceeded to score two goals.
The Spruce Kings couldn’t get another puck by Express goaltender Connor Mackenzie, who made 40 saves on the night. An empty net goal made it a 3-1 final.
The Spruce Kings are 9-6-0 in the 2021-22 British Columbia Hockey League season, good for 18 points in 15 games and fifth in the Interior Division. Prince George visits the Surrey Eagles on Friday (Nov. 19).
