BC Hydro workers heading south to help out with power restoration efforts

PRINCE GEORGE — Seven BC Hydro employees from Prince George have been sent down south in the wake of storm outages.

They include power line technicians and constructions services personnel. The Sunday floods knocked out power to thousands and destroyed valuable transportation infrastructure.

Some of the damage occurred as far north as 100 Mile House and Williams Lake. The seven crew members are currently in 100 Mile House offering assistance to get power up and running there.

“They’re going to finish up in 100 Mile House today and then will look at resourcing and you know, if you look at our outage page, you’ll see that there are outages in the southern Interior. So, depending on how things go, they will go further south,” says Bob Gammer, northern community relations manager with BC Hydro.

He says it’s not uncommon for workers in Prince George to help out in other regions of the province when needed.

“Well, we will help out other regions, certainly when we are fine, and other places definitely need help. So, we’ll send those extra bodies down. It just gets customers back on faster. Everybody values reliability, to have the lights on, and we want to help make sure that happens.”
