Unsettled weather brings with it a higher risk of avalanches.

PRINCE GEORGE – Areas of the province were slammed by an intense “atmospheric river,” bringing heavy new snow in the higher elevations.

Another powerful weather system is forecast to hit the North Rockies, potentially raising the avalanche risk.

Atmospheric rivers are concentrated bands of moisture that produce intense precipitation when they hit the west coast of North America.

These storms have an impact on avalanche conditions in higher regions.

There is another intense weather system expected to hit the north Rockies within the next few days.
