PRINCE GEORGE -The labour market showed more signs its returning to pre-pandemic levels. The numbers out of Statistics Canada this morning, show the November unemployment rate for Prince George fell to 5.4 percent from 6.9 the previous month, and 7.9 percent the previous year.

No change in BC’s jobless numbers from last month, at 5.6 percent. The national unemployment rate dropped to 6 percent last month from 6.7 percent in October, as the economy added 154,000 jobs.

That brought the rate closer to the 5.7 per cent recorded in February 2020 just before the pandemic struck. And for the first time since August, Statistics Canada recorded a drop in the number of long-term unemployed – which now stands at 62,000.
