Prince George among most heavily impacted as BC Hydro expects storms to cause more power outages
PRINCE GEORGE — BC Hydro said the Prince George area was among the most heavily impacted parts of the province as a wind storm blowing across B.C. left about 80,000 BC Hydro customers without power across the province at its peak on Friday (Nov. 6), with officials expecting more to come.
The power company said the storm blew down trees and branches, damaging infrastructure and causing widespread outages across much of the province.
Locally, the wind storm started damaging power infrastructure in the Prince George area shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, with 13,878 customers in the central Interior region without power as of Saturday morning (Nov. 7).
In the Williams Lake area, power began failing when the storm hit the region at 5:27 p.m. on Friday. As of Saturday morning, BC Hydro reports that power has been restored to most properties in the region.
