United Way collects over 1,200 children’s books for those in need

Dec 14, 2021 | 3:20 PM

PRINCE GEORGE- The United Way of Northern BC’s children’s book drive last week was a success. Over 1,200 books were collected on Friday, which will go towards families in need or local agencies that offer children’s programs/services. Anyone that missed the drive can still donate new or lightly used children’s books at the UWNBC office until the end of the month.

The drive was part of the Tree of Lights campaign, and will be followed up by a workwear drive this Friday to help with employment needs. Residents can donate new or gently used office clothing, shoes, and work gear such as safety boots and work gloves. Items will be accepted at the Coast Prince George Hotel by APA from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. North Central Labour Council (NCLC) will donate $1 for every workwear item donated – up to $1500 – towards the Tree of Lights.

So far, UWNBC has raised 60% of their $50,000 fundraising goal, as $30,000 has been raised. The funds will be used to support the Prince George service sector. There are 10 days left in the campaign. For each $25 donation towards the Tree of Lights campaign, donors will be entered into a weekly draw to win a prize basket from a local business.
