Non-essential travel expected to return to Highway 3

Dec 21, 2021 | 5:59 AM

HOPE- Travel restrictions are expected to be lifted from Highway 3 today, allowing the route between Hope and Princeton to be used for non-essential purposes.

That’s after the Coquihalla Highway was reopened to trucks and intercity buses yesterday following round-the-clock repairs since flooding and landslides caused severe damage to numerous parts of the key route more than a month ago.

Dave Earle, the president of the BC Trucking Association, says the reopening brings more predictability to the movement of goods throughout the province.

Sections of the Trans-Canada Highway near Lytton in the Fraser Canyon remain closed due to flood damage, while Highway 8 between Spences Bridge and Merritt is completely closed with reconstruction underway.
