New Lheidli T’enneh flag flying at City Hall
PRINCE GEORGE – A new flag has been raised at City Hall. It is similar to the former Lheidli T’enneh flag, but it now sports an orange ribbon as a reminder of the fate of 215 children whose remains were found in unmarked graves near the residential school in Kamloops.
“The orange ribbon will serve as a constant reminder of what happened in Kamloops and elsewhere,” noted Chief Dolleen Logan, who adds it is not just a reminder of the 215 children found in Kamloops but the seven thousand across the nation, including Le Jac at Fraser Lake.
“My mother went to residential school. Her brothers and sisters went. This is a chapter in our journey that will be looked at over and over again. Their voices are finally being heard,” says Chief Logan, “The story of residential schools in Canada needs to be better understood by all Canadians and we see it as part of Truth and Reconciliation.”
