Winter blues? Today is a day to address that
PRINCE GEORGE—Monday’s isn’t easy for many of us. As the week starts, we may struggle to get the motivation to get going and complete daily tasks. The winter weather doesn’t help either.
This Monday January 17th, however, is a day that’s important for mental health. It’s widely known as ‘Blue Monday’. It began as a marketing ploy by a travel company but has since then turned into a day to discuss mental wellbeing and especially those who suffer from SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder.
“We’re just getting past the longest day of the year and there’s not a lot sun right now. In the middle of winter for so many places in North America, we just don’t get the amount of sun that we really want and for a lot of us–need.” said Shirley Hogan, Program Manager at Canadian Mental Health Association, Northern BC branch.
